Rare antique enamelled pompom bracelet dating from the Second Empire.

 

Description

Early Victorian French pinchbeck bracelet multicolored gilded metal. Antique bracelet composed of three plates in pinchbeck metal embossed in gold and silver. The ends are decorated with foliage. The central element is adorned with a cloisonné enamel plate decorated with a bouquet of flowers on a blue background. This enamel plate is framed by foliage and scrolls in pompom and two flowers in black and white cloisonne enamel. The copper clasp is with ingenuity: it is adjustable according to the size of the wrist with notches hidden inside. Antique bracelet from the early Second Empire, most likely French.

Further information : Invented in the 18th century, pinchbeck (or pomponne in French) is a copper-based metal imitating gold or silver. This alloy generally contains a small quantity of gold, unlike gold, it oxidizes in the open air.
