Cameo jewelry is jewelry decorated with a cameo or an intaglio. What is the difference?

Cameos are stones (often agates) or shells with several layers, which are carved in such a way as to reveal a pattern through the different colored layers. Generally, they are female profiles in the Antique style, but all motifs are possible. The intaglios are the opposite of cameos: it is an engraved stone that is applied to wax to reveal a design. It is decorated with a man in profile, probably a Roman emperor, in an entourage of writing, now illegible. The soulders and ring is made of 18 karat gold, after the central profile.
