Georgian yellow topaz earrings

Rare sleeper earrings with “brazils”, oval yellow topazes on a red coloured metallic pearl, giving beautiful luminous reflections.

Description

Georgian yellow topaz earrings in 18 karat rose gold set with vibrant golden topaz on foil. The earrings have a closed dome back setting in gold with a curved bottom. Under each topaz is an orange metallic leaf to enhance the brilliance of the stone. Regional French jewel from the second half of the 18th century (Georgian period), probably from the Languedoc-Roussillon region. 

At that time, the stones most used in Roussilon were garnets, citrines or Aurillac topaz. A red foil was placed under the stone to give it changing light reflections, they were called “Brazil stone”, or “Oil and Vinegar” in this area of France. 

Goldsmith’s hallmark AB, Regional hallmark. Condition: good. The system is working. It closes by the back. One of the stone has darker tones than the other due to the foil.
