    Raymond Templier Sports jewelry project

    Boxing jewelry project in nickel silver depicting a boxer in position, ready to attack or defend. The construction of the jewelry gives a 3D impression. This piece likely served as a model for a silver belt featured in the Belgian newspaper “Les Sports,” 1944 (shown on p. 110 of “Raymond Templier, Le bijou moderne” by Laurence Mouillefarine and Véronique Ristelhueber), and for a trophy for a 1944 boxing championship for which a version was made (see photo). It may also have inspired a brooch project, with several representing other sports reproduced in the aforementioned book “Raymond Templier.” Circa 1944, France. Sport jewelry collection.

It represents Henri Cochet and his characteristic racket movement. The motif also appears on the Challenge Tennis-Club de Reims cup from 1947, reproduced on p. 109 in the previously mentioned book.     Art Deco swimming medal in gilded silver 800 thousandths (vermeil). Medal with a sports theme depicting a swimmer practicing crawl in the sea (known as “open water”). The reverse of the medal is decorated with a blank cartouche surrounded by a laurel wreath. Swimming has been part of the Summer Olympic Games program since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. But since the swimmer is depicted in the sea, it is possible that it is also a triathlon medal: the triathlon format, included in both men’s and women’s Olympic events, involves athletes completing 1,500 meters of open water swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling, and finishing with a 10-kilometer run.     More information : This piece was awarded to Armand Burtin for the cross-country race of L’Intransigeant held on December 17, 1922.

    Armand Burtin (1896-1972) was a French athlete specializing in running (1500 meters, relay, 3000 meters). He left a significant mark on French athletics history with his remarkable performances. In 1920, Armand Burtin won the French Championship title in the 1500 meters, crossing the finish line in 4 minutes and 3.4 seconds. This victory etched his name in French athletics history and demonstrated his exceptional talent in this discipline. Armand Burtin represented France in the Summer Olympics of 1920 and 1924, proudly bearing his country’s colors on the international stage.
