Description
Victorian hoop onyx earrings in yellow gold 18 karats. Large pair of earrings composed of a ring of onyx in low part and a cabochon of onyx veined with white (called agate) in upper part. The two elements are linked by a yellow gold link. Victorian earrings, late 19th – early 20th century. Probably mourning jewelry, when women had to keep wearing dark colours for many months after the death of a beloved one.
The setting has been tested with 18 karat gold acids.
