Charming Napoléon III ring set with an oval pink garnet, surrounded by stars partially enamelled.
Victorian garnet ring
Description
Victorian garnet ring made of 18 karat gold. A rhodolite garnet adorns this beautiful ring, it is surrounded by a stars chiseled pattern. This pattern underlines the beautiful intense pink-plum garnet’s color. The ring’s body is also chiseled but the pattern is partially erased. The whole ring presented black enamel traces but it has almost totally disappeared. French work from the Second Empire, Napoléon III period (Victorian period).
The pink garnet is called rhodolite, it is a combination with almandine garnet (wine-red) and pyrope garnet (fire red), named after its color, from the Greek rhodon meaning pink and lithos, meaning stone.
