Description
Victorian agate cameo ring in 18 karat pink gold. In the center, a black and white multilayer agate carved in relief depicting Flora goddess in profile. The central stone in bezel setting. Two intertwined strands form the ring, one decorated with foliage, the other with diamonds. French antique jewel from the second half of the 19th Century.
Agate has been a popular ornamental gem since ancient times, especially for the manufacture of cameo. Indeed, when it is made up of several layers of color – like this one, black in the background and white for the profile – the agate can be engraved in relief to obtain a pattern.
Owl hallmark, later add by French customs.
