The “+” sign is set with five rose-cut diamonds; the “-” sign is decorated with three calibrated synthetic rubies. The words “que hier” and “que demain” are embossed. This inscription refers to a quotation from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis used these verses in his “médailles d’amour”, condensing them to “+ qu’hier – que demain”. The medal is surrounded by a laurel garland.
