Description
Antique Victorian niello earrings with a silver beads holding a long drop. The earrings are entirely in niello silver with a honeycomb decoration. The screw fastening system is chiselled with a flower decoration. Antique earrings dating from the second half of the 19th century, France.

Did you know it ? The niello is a goldsmith’s skill which consists in applying on gold, silver or copper, a black substance in inlay. This substance is called niello (from the Latin nigellus meaning “blackened”), a black metallic sulfide that includes copper, silver, lead or borax.
