Description

Antique gold eagle heads bangle bracelet in yellow gold 18 karats (750). Important victorian bangle bracelet, decorated with two heads of eagles facing each other at the ends of the bracelet. The head of the raptors is finely executed: the plumage and the beak are figured with care by the chasing and the sculpture. Antique bracelet from middle of the 19th century, circa 1860, France.

Eagle head hallmark and French goldsmith’s hallmark partially erased

Further information on the symbolism of the eagle : between 1804 and 1815 under Napoleon I, then 1852-1870 under Napoleon III, the Empire asserted itself by adopting the figure of the animal as opposed to the royal fleur-de-lis. The eagle refers to the myth of the origins of Rome, founder of civilization. It will be a very popular motif under both empires.
