About Emile Dropsy (1848-1923): a French engraver and medal-maker, Emile Dropsy finished his studies at the age of thirty and began making medals under the guidance of Ferdinand Levillain. For a long time, he devoted himself to creating religious medals, which were very popular with the public.

Antique Art Nouveau medal in 18 karat yellow gold (750). Art Nouveau pendant bearing the inscription “1915” in an openwork frame decorated with flowers in the typical Art Nouveau style. The reverse side of the medal is inscribed “Souvenir des Blessés” (Remembrance of the Wounded), in homage to the soldiers victims of the Great War. Art Nouveau ruby ring in 18 karat yellow gold and platinum. Antique ring of the Art Nouveau period decorated with a pigeon’s blood ruby and diamonds. In its center there is a cushion-cut ruby. The ruby is framed by two old-cut diamonds. The whole is surrounded by twelve rose-cut diamonds in a platinum beaded setting. The shoulders of the ring are embellished with leaves setted with diamonds. Art nouveau ring, circa 1910, France, Paris.
Marked with an eagle’s head and the mark of the goldsmith Georges Lavoipierre (active in Paris between 1906 and 1942).

Antique Augis ring “more than yesterday less than tomorrow” in yellow gold 18 karats (750), signed. The ring is surmounted by an oval plate delicately worked in laurel leaves, which have slightly faded with time. The ring is soberly decorated and separates into two strands of gold on the edges of the tray. The “+” sign is set with five diamonds and the “-” sign is set with a baguette cut treated natural ruby. This refers to a quote from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis takes up these verses in his “medals of love” by condensing them into “+ than yesterday – than tomorrow”.

Art Nouveau enamel brooch in yellow gold 18 karats. Brooch of triangular form with lines in “whiplash”, decorated with flowers of iris in the center. The work on the gold is particularly strong and delicate. In the openwork parts, the goldsmith has applied an enamel called “plique à jour” of a mauve color. The enamel is unevenly deposited and slightly milky. On the reverse side, the brooch is chiseled with a floral motif that also gives it movement. In the lower part, a hoop was added afterwards, which allows the brooch to be worn as a pendant. Brooch – pendant in plique enamel of the Art Nouveau period, circa 1910.
