560,00€Georgian mourning hair ring in 14k pink gold. An antique locket ring keeping a braid of hair enclosed behind glass crystal. It is framed by a halo of 16 seed pearls and the settings is formed by two separated strands adorned with an openwork pattern. Jewel from the beginning of the 19th century, circa 1810-1830.

Hair jewellery was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Jewellery with compartments made it possible to keep a lock of hair of a lover or a missing person (later it will be the photograph). It can be a medallion or a ring for example. There are also jewels made from hair, such as necklaces, chains, bracelets and rings. These hair jewels are worked like textiles: they are woven, embroidered, twisted. A whole craft industry developed around this new fashion, which lasted until the end of the 19th century.

Symbolism: The lily has been a symbol of royalty for centuries. The fleur-de-lis is believed to have appeared for the first time on the scepter of Charles the Bald (823-877), the grandson of Charlemagne. The French royalty, therefore, chose this emblem just as other reigning European families chose the eagle, lion, or leopard. For centuries, until the revolution, the fleur-de-lis became a heraldic symbol on monuments, currency, clothing and tapestries, sculptures, statues, art objects, paintings… To express their opposition to monarchy and Catholicism, the revolutionaries destroyed numerous sites and artworks marked by this symbol.

This bracelet is decorated with a round silver element on which are set sixteen rose-cut diamonds in a star pattern, surrounded by nine fine pearls. The structure is worked in openwork. The silver element can be removed by means of a pin that fixes it (or detaches it) from the bracelet. The jewel can thus be worn in a simple or more elaborate way. The base of the crown is decorated with round rubies and oval emeralds in a circular and triangular setting. These gems are framed by two lines of rose-cut diamonds in a platinum beaded setting. At the top, there is a stylized fleur-de-lis motif in a diamond setting, alternating with pearls. A decorative chain with jaseron mesh runs along both sides of the base of the crown.
