Gothic revival ring
Description
Gothic revival ring made of solid 18 karats gold. Wiese style. A mascaron (grotesque mask) of matt gold rests in a four claws mount with an openworked Gothic revival design behind, and elegant ivy shoulders and body.
The mascaron is a laughing face similar to a carnival mask. It is surrounded by four leaves design.
The work is beautifully done. I think it might have been a pin, changed into a ring.
Size ring: 56,5 UE or 7.75 US (resizing on request)
Condition : scratches from use
Weight: 8.77gr
More about Jules and his son Louis Wiese : neo-Renaissance and Gothic imagination whilst also looking to religion and archaeology to inspire him. He frequently employed grotesque beasts and gargoyles, ecclesiastic detailing and historic influences. Louis was also known to use mercury oxide to distress the surface of metal, further enhancing the ‘aged’ appearance of his jewels.
