Victorian enamel pansy locket in rose gold 9 karats (385). This large locket is decorated with enamels representing a hand with a white and blue sleeve, holding between its fingers an pansy flower. The enamelled decoration is surrounded by a chased and picté decoration. The pendant opens into a compartment which may contain a sentimental item, a photograph or a lock of hair. The reverse side of the jewel chiseled. It’s an antique sentimental medallion, expressing tender thoughts towards the person whose memory or portrait is kept inside. The word pansy in French is the same than a “thought”, making a play of word with the flower. Victorian period, Second half of the 19th century.
