Small Augis Love medal in 18 karat yellow gold. This round-shaped medal is a smaller version of the Love medal. The “+” sign is set with a rose-cut diamond; the “-” sign is decorated with two calibrated synthetic rubies. The words “que hier” and “que demain” are embossed. This inscription refers to a quotation from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis used these verses in his “médailles d’amour”, condensing them to “+ qu’hier – que demain”. The medal is surrounded by a laurel garland. Early 20th century Augis medal, circa 1930, France.
Eagle head hallmark and illegible goldsmith’s hallmark, signed A.A on the medal and marked “déposé” on the reverse.
