Learn more: In antique jewelry, the Art Nouveau period is characterized by inspiration from fauna, flora, and also women. During this period, Japanese art particularly influenced jewelers. That’s why we often find the same subjects: the profile of a woman, butterflies, bees, dragonflies, fantastical animals, seahorses, fish, etc. The most coveted semi-precious and decorative stones of this period are opal, moonstone, topaz, amethyst, agate, ivory, and horn. Finally, jewelers use enamel in all its forms, offering an infinite range of colors and adding an interesting aspect to the jewelry, such as plique-à-jour enamel.
