Description
Cigarette case by Georg Scheid. Art Nouveau cigarette case in 900 silver, entirely covered with guilloché enamel. The box opens to reveal a compartment for cigarettes; another part opens to a smaller compartment that likely held matches. Both opening parts are adorned with two sapphire cabochons. The inside of the lid bears the inscriptions ‘1899-1900 and 1906-1908’ and a signature that reads ‘Auersperg GH (?)’. The side of the case was used to strike a match. The perfect accessory for gentlemen and gentlewomen. The case is signed ‘GAS’ for Georg Adam SCHEID (1838-1921), Austria, circa 1910.
