Description
Augis laurel “Raymonde” love medal. Augis “+ qu’hier – que demain” love medal in 18 karat yellow gold. This round-shaped medal is a smaller version of the Médaille d’Amour. The “+” sign is in white gold and set with five old-cut diamonds; the “-” sign is decorated with two calibrated synthetic rubies. The words “que hier” and “que demain” are embossed. This inscription refers to a quotation from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis used these verses in his “médailles d’amour”, condensing them to “+ qu’hier – que demain”. The medal is surrounded by a laurel garland. The reverse has been engraved with the first name “Raymonde”. Early 20th century Augis medal, circa 1930, France.
