It is an opening ring, onto a secret compartment by means of a push-button. It is likely that the ring once contained braided hair. The inside of the ring bears the inscription in French “au 11 août” (to August 11th) and twice the number 8 in Roman numerals (VIII). Antique ring, circa 1830-1850, bearing Dutch import hallmarks.
