Description
Vintage Augis ring in 18 karat yellow gold. The ring is centered on a smooth-edged Augis medal, set on a setting that enhances the medal, with a striated, radiating surround. This ring bears the inscription “plus qu’hier moins que demain”, the “+” is adorned with a small diamond and the “-” is adorned with two calibrated synthetic rubies. The inscription refers to a quotation from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis used these verses in his “medailles d’amour”, condensing them to “+ qu’hier – que demain”. The ring’s shoulders are decorated with palmettes. Vintage ring, circa 1970, France.
