Dropsy Art Nouveau pendant

Antique medal dating from the Art Nouveau period, signed Dropsy. Medal surrounded by sapphire cabochons, forming a tenfold.

Description

Dropsy Art Nouveau pendant in 18 karat yellow gold. Circular medal centred on a piece representing a woman in profile with a 1900’s style hairstyle, possibly a portrait of Sarah Bernhardt. The coin is encircled in gold and surrounded by ten cabochons of natural sapphires. These different points allowed the wearer to pray the tens of beads as a religious rosary. Antique medal from the Art Nouveau period

About Emile Dropsy (1848-1923): he is a French engraver and medalist, at the age of thirty, Emile Dropsy finishes his studies and starts to realize medals under the direction of Ferdinand Levillain. He devoted himself for a long time to the creation of religious medals, which were very popular with the public.
