Its colour is due to organic pigments close to carotene: varying from blood red to white, passing by the pink “angel skin”. Currently, most coral species are protected under CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

2300,00€Georgian diamond portrait ring in rose gold 18 karats and silver 800 thousandth. Antique ring composed of a hexagonal bezel enclosing a lady’s portrait. The miniature portrait is painted on ivory, it is highlighted by a surround of thirty rose-cut diamonds in a silver setting. The basket is beautifully crafted, decorated with scrolls in cartouches corresponding to the hexagonal shape of the jewel. This ring is a transformable piece of jewellery. The bezel can be removed by means of a pin located at the basket.
It is likely that the portrait, once removed from the ring, could be worn as a brooch or pendant by fitting it to another suitable structure.
This ring dates from the late 18th century.
