Victorian brooches

In the 19th century brooches are very popular, Victorian brooches are often decorated with pearls, diamonds, cameos and enamel. Under the reign of Queen Victoria we see mourning brooches, with hair, black enamel, names engraved in tribute to the deceased. At the French court the brooch was an indispensable accessory, it was part of the front of women’s bodices, it served as a messenger for lovers.

  • Victorian eros love broochbroche Amour en or 18k

    Eros Love brooch in 18 karat (750) yellow gold. Antique brooch decorated with openwork gold leaf depicting an antique scene with Eros leaning on a stele decorated with a flaming heart. The gold leaf is applied to a square of silk. The ring is encircled by gold and onyx. The back of the jewel opens to conceal a photograph or a lock of hair. Antique brooch, circa 1870. Sentimental jewellery, France.

    Victorian portrait diamonds brooch in silver and rose gold 18 karats (750). Antique brooch with a lady’s portrait painted on ivory and protected by a glass. The portrait is surrounded by a pink gold border and a silver decoration forming a knot and foliage, set with 54 rose-cut diamonds. Late 19th century antique portrait brooch, Victorian period.

    French marquess crown brooch in yellow, rose gold 18 karats and platinum. Antique brooch representing a marquees crown. The base of the crown is decorated with round rubies and oval emeralds in a circular and triangular setting. These gems are framed by two lines of rose-cut diamonds in a platinum beaded setting. At the top, there is a stylized fleur-de-lis motif in a diamond setting, alternating with pearls. A decorative chain with jaseron mesh runs along both sides of the base of the crown. French brooch, late 19th century.

  • victorian silver broochbroche ancienne portrait grisaille

    Victorian grisaille brooch miniature in 18 karat rose gold and silver. Of circular shape, a lady’s portrait dressed as in 18th Century fashion is painted in grisaille (different shades of greys). The portrait is encircled by a rose gold circle, two branches with flowers inlaid with pearls cross each other on the upper part of the jewel. Six pearls decorate the contour of the brooch to highlight the lovely portrait. Antique brooch from the Victorian period, 19th century.
