Large Augis love medal in 18 karat yellow gold. Large circular love medal pendant. The “+” sign is in relief and the “-” sign is set with three calibrated synthetic rubies. The medal is surrounded by a stylized ribbon. The background is decorated with radiating striations, highlighting the words “+ qu’hier – que demain”. The pendant refers to a quotation from a letter from Rosmonde Gérard, the poetess, to her love Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac: “For, you see, every day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow”. Inspired by these two lovers, Alphonse Augis used these verses in his “médailles d’amour”, condensing them to “+ qu’hier – que demain”. Vintage Médaille d’Amour by Augis, circa 1960, France.
