Victorian brooches
In the 19th century, brooches were very popular. Napoleon III brooches, in particular, were often decorated with pearls, diamonds, cameos and enamel. They were also found in England, during the reign of Queen Victoria. This was the era of mourning brooches, incorporating hair, black enamel and names engraved in homage to the deceased.
At the court of France, the brooch became an essential accessory, an essential ornament for women's bodices, while serving as a messenger for declarations of love.
