Victorian tie pin by J.W.Benson
This jewel has already gone to its new home
Victorian J.W.Benson diamond bead pin in silver. Rare English pin in the form of a walking stick, very finely executed. The pommel is set with three rose-cut diamonds, alternated with three seed pearls. A spiral adorns the stem of the pin. This jewel can be worn on a tie or a lavaliere. The jewel is in its original case with the inscription "J.W. BENSON 25 OLD BOND St LONDON" with a crown. Victorian period (between 1870 and 1890), England.
Tested a sterling silver, no hallmark

Historical point: the tie pin knows its hour of glory around 1900, it is then the sign of the refined elegance. Around 1855, the English started to fashion motifs on the theme of hunting, horse racing and sport: the tie pin was adapted to the daily attire of these gentlemen.
The jeweler: the House of Benson specialises in clocks, watches and boxes. It began selling jewellery in 1874. Benjamin Disraeli's novels shopped at Benson's and in 1899, Queen's magazine recommended their designs "so finely made that they seem to be made of lace and frost".
