Bresse enamel jewellery is a traditional piece of jewellery from Bourg-en-Bresse. Its origins date back to the 14th century, when the town's enameller, Maître Guillaume, was commissioned to decorate the pommel and scabbard of the Duke of Savoy, Amédée VIII. This jewellery flourished beyond the Bresse region between 1830 and 1900. In the mid-19th century, Bresse enamel evolved under the leadership of the goldsmiths Amédée Bonnet and Amédée Fornet, with the addition of gold flakes, enamel beads and filigree arabesques.
The Bressan enamels are entirely handmade. The pearl or arabesque decoration is made with 24 karat gold and can be mounted on 18 karat gold, vermeil or silver settings.
