To learn more: hair jewelry was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Compartmental jewelry allowed you to keep a lock of hair from a lover or a deceased loved one (later it would be a photograph). It could be a medallion or a ring for example. There was also jewelry made from hair, it could be necklaces, chains, bracelets and rings. This hair jewelry was worked like textiles: it was woven, embroidered, twisted. A whole craft developed around this new fashion. which would last until the end of the 19th century.
