Perpignan garnet star ring
Description
Perpignan garnet star ring in yellow and rose 18 karats gold. The head of the ring takes the form of a 12-pointed star decorated with Perpignan garnets. In the centre of the composition, a round garnet in closed setting is surrounded by twelve faceted garnets arranged in a star or flower shape. The Perpignan cut garnets are foiled and set in a closed setting, the bottom of the bezels is domed. These garnets have a beautiful raspberry, pink and red colour. These particular colours are typical of Perpignan jewellery, with a palette of shades that is revealed in the sunlight. The star pattern is set in a yellow gold ring. The ring head was probably mounted on a later ring. The ring is a regional French jewel from the beginning of the 19th century.
