Description
Miniature religious ring in 18 karats yellow gold . The ring is delicately worked in three strands, the shoulders are decorated with a knot. The Catholic ring has a miniature depicting a Virgin Mary in majesty, crowned and carrying a scepter, with a colorful dress. It is in closed setting. Jewel of the early 19th century. This representation of the Virgin Mary is quite common in Spain where it is found under the name of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Virgin of Carmen. With a huge dress and adorned with colors, she wears a crown topped by a cross. Mary is in the Catholic tradition the “Queen of Heaven” (Regina Caeli). The title derives in part from the ancient Catholic teaching that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was physically and spiritually elevated to heaven and is honored there as Queen: the feast of Mary Queen is celebrated on August 22, eight days after the feast of the Assumption.
