Edwardian Art Deco pendant
Description
Edwardian Art Deco pendant in 18 karat yellow gold. This pendant has a mother-of-pearl plate engraved with a neoclassical scene, showing a couple in love embracing in the centre of a room, outside a woman turning back in the rain. The plate is held by five claws in a 18k gold frame. The plate is signed R.LAMOURDEDIEU. Art Deco pendant, Edwardian period, circa 1930.
Eagle head hallmark, Eugène Martin goldsmith hallmark (active from 1920), signature R.Lamourdedieu in the lower right corner.
Raoul Lamourdedieu (1877-1953) was a French sculptor and medalist. He entered the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts in 1894 and continued his studies at the Paris School of Fine Arts with Alexandre Falguière and Alexandre Charpentier, both sculptors and painters. During his life as an artist, he took part in the sculptural decoration of the Grand Palais in Paris, created the fountain in the garden of the Petit Palais, and other sculptures which were to travel the world.
In 1933, Charles Fegdal in L’art et les artistes said of him: “Larmoudedieu is a statuary mad about stone, as such a painter was mad about drawing”.
