The miniatures depict a young lady reading, another making a wreath of flowers, a third gathering a bird and the last, a lamb. Romantic and pastoral themes were very much in vogue at the end of the 19th century. The earrings have a screw-fastening system for non-pierced ears. Inside, an arrow rotates on the cardinal points. The compass is two-sided, with both sides protected by glass. It is decorated with a gold cord that holds the hoop. The North indication works. Made in England, Birmingham, 1891.
